Clickbank and Bing ads direct linking success

Actually, buggered if I can understand how direct linking ads can even get approved, because unless the vendor forgot to do it or also you were the absolute first to come across the product, then the url will be already taken, and bing won't allow it?
The rule is only in relation to paid ads. The domain that shows up in the organic results doesn't count towards this, so as long as there are no paid ads already pointing to that domain you're okay. (Many vendors won't have paid ads based on their brand keywords simply because they don't think to do it, don't feel their product is well-known enough, or don't want to spend the money on ads).

I've had a few questions about domains and direct linking so I wanted to add some information about what is allowed by Google and Bing:

Direct linking allowed?
Bing = YES, Google = NO

Affiliate landing page allowed?
Bing = YES, Google = YES

Paid ads must be unique domains?
Bing = YES, Google = YES
This means that within the *paid* results on the search results page a domain can only once, ie. an ad for joesoffer.com cannot have more than one ad. Therefore, if someone is direct linking to joesoffer.com already you need to do a paid ad to your own landing page in order to rank (or you need to outbid the other person, which can be done be is more difficult and expensive).

Cheers,
Dave

Really important thing to remember, especially if you're direct linking...

If you want to edit your ads, don't edit them. Create a new ad.

You need to do this because editing your ad will likely put it into moderation/review. If you're direct linking and your ad suddenly goes into review you could lose your place to another affiliate.

Cheers,
Dave

Few questions and comments:

Define domain better:
Would a sub domain lala.haha.com not be the same as haha.com ?

Google is a raw deal, they charge a lot more per click and make you do more work --is the ROI on the same sort of campaign better with Google? Not a fair test really as you need a prelanding page for Google Ads ...

Conversely, Bing may be hard to scale for reason of its much lower market share.

From my little personal experience, or reliable audited or stated, with Google AdWords, a while ago, the affiliate payouts on rev-share in the adult webcam business were not enough to cover the initial customer acquisition costs.
Initial payout was $12-$14~ and the lifetime customer revenue was $150~ <<averages

Today Google Ads is higher priced. So, what is a good payout threshold. I am thinking the offer needs a 20 times payout; CPC 1.40 :: offer $25-$30 payout? Can that even be done at scale today?

Regarding domain, I'm talking about top level domain. So Bing and Google would see lala.haha.com as the same thing as lala.com and lala.com/haha.

In my experience, in my more serious campaigns outside of Clickbank, the difference between Google and Bing often comes down to vertical and demographic. Bing's ROI is often better when the target demographic is older. Over a long term campaign, Google can work out better simply because of the scale of traffic and their system is more responsive to campaign feedback (ie. as your quality score rises the CPC seems to improve faster than with Bing).

My best performing campaign with Google Ads has an average payout of $40. It's also not on Clickbank and I don't have the added worries of refunds.

That seems a decent payout for google ads (to me).

I just found a Affiliate program with a $80 CPA/PPA(pay per account) in real estate investment crowd funding. The Bing CPC might be low enough but ill have to see if GoogleAds is in the under $4 range with exact long tails <that might work. Out of curiosity (if you know or can look) will Bing allow gambling/casino is jurisdiction where it is legal online?
Looks like they'll allow it in regions where it is permitted.

Gambling contests policies - Microsoft Advertising.

Thank you for this case study, looks interesting

how long does it take for bing to start showing your ad? I made a test ad over the weekend but still nothing in stats. Is it cause it was weekend? Is there any way to check if it is fully confirmed apart from showing as "eligible" ?

If it's a new account Bing could take up to 24 hours to approve an ad. It's possible there is not much traffic if you are brand bidding (unless the product is super popular) To make sure it is active go to the keywords tab and do an "Ad Preview and Diagnosis".

@techable
Thanks for your reply. i used a low gravity offer - around 25 i think- . Account is not brand new but it was "idle" for 1-2 years.

Where is the "Ad Preview and Diagnosis" cant see to find it.
Maybe ill try to make a new campaign with more popular item just to check

Go to the keywords tab.

There is a "Delivery" column. The delivery column will have the keyword status and a "..." button. Hover over the "..." and it should tell you whether the ad is active or not and on the tab which pops up you'll see the "Ad Preview and Diagnosis" link.

ok found it...hovering shows "no" and 4/10 score...clicking preview doesnt get my ad in the first page...maybe add more keywords

If your quality score is only 4/10 I recommend you work out what is wrong with the ad before you focus on other keywords. 4/10 is really low which means there is something wrong (when it was active you weren't getting enough click throughs or your bid is too low, ie. competition is paying more, has better optimized ads, etc.)

i tried to make it as simple as your video with high bid.. Ill check out settings again or ill add more keywords

After having done this for a while I recommend not adding new keywords to the same adgroup. It's important to be able to understand where your traffic and sales are coming from so if you really want to add new keywords add them to a new adgroup or campaign so you can have a separate ad with a different tid in your hoplink.

I still would recommend you focus on fixing the 4/10 keyword/ad combo first.

hi again..i made the same exact sample as your video and got 4/10 score so again doesnt get any traffic

If I could make some suggestions:

  1. Do an "Ad Preview and Diagnosis" and check what ads are showing. What's different about their ads to your ad? Is there something you can improve about your ad?
  2. I am assuming you are direct linking? When you do an "Ad Preview and Diagnosis" is someone already direct linking to the offer? There can only be one result in the paid search results for a particular domain. If there is someone already direct linking, you only have to make a choice, increase your bid and try to beat the other person to get into the search results or junk the campaign and choose a different product.
Please let me know how you go.

Cheers,
Dave
