Image header in place of text title?

I'm using Wordpress to create my first blog. I'm very nitpicky about the aesthetics of the site, and an issue i'm having is that the font I have in the theme I installed doesn't look too appealing. Also, I have an image in my header. So right now, I have the title of the site written on top of the image header... But, I'm not liking the font type or color of the title... So, I was thinking of just downloading a custom font, and then writing over the image that I'm using for my header in paint with that new font and then just saving it all as one image.

Then, I'll just use that image as both header AND title. I'm wondering that if I do this (integrate the text into the image via paint) the search engine spiders won't index the title of the page since it is technically now an image file. Any help would be appreciated!

You can definitely do that and there are several options.

  1. You can use the image as the "anchor" for a link to your home page, something like this:

    PHP:
    < a href="http://www.yoursite.com/" < /a>
(spaces added after < so it will display)

Doing it this way provides alt text for the search engine spiders as well as a navigation link to your home page.

  2. Alternatively, you can "embed" a font using CSS to create a blog title in the font of your choice either instead of the image or below it, as in the example at Soma Sema Creative Photography (that looks like an image but it isn't). My youngest son created that but I could get the details of how he did it from him.
