Autoresponder Technology

How is it possible that an autoresponder like Aweber or Getresponse sends emails with addresses they don't own (mine) with their server? Do they cloak their address with my address or how it works? I asked their support but received no good answer. They just told me this is email marketing technology...

Thanks in advance

postfix autoresponder at DuckDuckGo

An autoresponder is a SMTP server function

Some action will trigger an autorespond
  • like a new order
  • an order shipped
  • an autoresponse to an email inbox saying that person is on vacation for 2 weeks ending(?)

Without seeing the headers of your email I don't know what you mean. Gmail on many other free mail servers will not give you the full headers of your messages.

I am going to assume that these email services are relaying the domain's mail.

see: Sender Policy Framework - Wikipedia

The Thunderbird email client will -- use IMAP or POP

I mean: The emails I send for example with GetResponse or Aweber are send from their server but my domain (and the related email address for the domain) are hosted at godaddy. How is this possible?

No I just have to confirm my email address at GetResponse and they can send emails from their server and the "from" will be my email address.

Did you understand that spf= TXT DNS entry?

Does your domain have a TXT entry v=spf (.*) aweber.com [or similar]
They need that to relay email for your domain ;)

Check your domains DNS here if you need a 'tool'
MX Lookup Tool - Check your DNS MX Records online - MxToolbox

here is an example:

; <<>> DiG 9.10.3-P4-Ubuntu <<>> TXT gmail.com

Well, without seeing the email headers I cannot make heads or tails of what you are saying.

That is not technology -- that is license to spam. Maybe it is legal but it sounds shady.
