what is the difference between content and copy?

There are many definitions, but generally speaking, "content" is educational/entertaining while "copy" coerces a particular action.

This definition breaks down when you consider something like product descriptions or a technical manual. I'd call that copy, not really content, but it's not necessarily persuasive. So there are many types of copy. Some of it is "I know it when I see it"

In the global context there may be little difference. A newspaper article in the newsroom is referred to as;

DIRECTIONS FOR PREPARING COPY
Most newspapers insist on typewritten copy ; all prefer it. It can be prepared more quickly than long-hand copy after one has mastered the use of the machine; it makes for accuracy; it is easier to edit, and, because of its uniform legibility, it saves time and expense in type-setting.

CONTENT is an Internet buzz acronym, that was popularized by SEO *gurus* referring to the story, article or blog post's text [copy] or <BODY> content</BODY> It became to be in widespread use maybe 3 years ago in this definition.

ADVERTISING COPY
Text of a print, radio, or television **[ or INTERNET] advertising message that aims at catching and holding the interest of the prospective buyer, and at persuading him or her to make a purchase all within a few short seconds.

Now this is what I can recommend to be referred.

There are many differences in between copy and content but the simple difference is copy provides information for buyer needs in order and this is a particular action and content comes in many formats but the content is entertaining.

Copy is written communication used to persuade an audience to take an action or to raise their awareness of a brand. Content is information communicated to an audience through media.

Took from googole.

  • Content is (in a www context); written articles, images. videos, podcasts
  • Ad copy is; selling points, touchpoints, also generally short persuasive statements.
  • Technical writing is; some sort of instructions about the product's use and maintenance.

Content's researched, copy is simply taken from other sources and reworded/restructured, you decide how much time you want to put into making differences from priginal copy. All a matter of time and money.

content is completely original (in a perfect scenario) and can be offered in different forms like images, videos, etc.
copy is just... like referring to already existing thing (sometimes with a statement that it is your own -_-)

Copy is simply a two-line sales pitch. You can see it on ads or social media. Content is information that's much longer than a two-line. It could be an article, a paragraph, or even a book.

Copywriting's goal is to create action (normally converting someone into a sale or a lead).

Content writing's goal is to earn trust.

The other way to think about it is Advertorial (copy) vs Editorial (content). The first is about making a sale (no matter how long the piece is), and the second is about a topic the company/product believes in enough to write a helpful public opinion about.

So basically with copywritten you are trying to get people's attention depending on the target audience while with content writing you are just passing on soem important information to your target audience. It may just be informative.

what is the difference between content and copy?
Content- is educational.

Any type of marketing material (video, audio, infographic, and blogs) focussed on a particular set of audiences can be called content. It has a broader application when compared to copy.

Copy- brings sales.

Copywriting is focused on creating brand awareness. It is the language used only for business. The purpose of the copy is specific and is highly used in Marketing and Advertising.

As I see it, Content is something unique like text, image, article that will be used in smm. Copy - something taken from different sources

All copy is content, but not all content is copy.

In our industry, copy generally has the intention of persuasion, while content generally has the intention of informing, but can include persuasion.

There are lots of differences between these two notions, but the main is that content is often used for something abstract, you know. It can be a designing of logos or websites, creation of websites. Actually everything that comes to you mind when you hear the word content. Copy is a direct notion which is used for describing the text of a print, radio or television. In my opinion, a person who has never faced SEO tools and this activity will be a bit confused, however it doesn't take too much time to sort things out here. You just can to apply to definition in the internet or vocabularies and then everything will be clear for you.
