Too Much Garbage On Your Website

No, I’m not talking about AffiliateFix. There are some distractions here, but nothing irritating.

What I mean are sites that hit you with pop-ups, site messages: Subscribe right away, auto-play videos, and endless junk. I get the cookie consent banner—that’s a legal requirement. But the rest? Total overkill.

I use Firefox every day. Most ads and trackers are blocked (Google Analytics, Facebook, the works). Okay, that’s not how the average user browses—I just don’t have time for bullshit. Firefox even has a handy screen reader button right in the title bar. Unlike Chrome’s half-baked mess, it actually works on most pages.

But too many normal websites, media and news sites are like a circus or zoo. Pop-ups, autoplay, flashing boxes—every click brings another distraction. Half the time I just hit the little reader icon, and all the garbage disappears.

Here’s the point: if you want traffic that actually has money to spend, cut the crap. Keep your site usable and people will stick around. Fill it with noise and you’ll drive them away.

!!! ABSOLUTELY !!!
I HAVE READ ARTICLE AFTER ARTICLE THIS YEAR ON THIS TOPIC.

The public doesn't want it. Especially in private areas and groups. There is a call to the old school on this one and it is everywhere. We (AffiliateFix) were recently pointed out as "old school", sarcastically, on Telegram in the Propeller chat group. A bunch of younger members slamming us for not having all of the "dolled up" exaggerated creativity so many of the affiliate networks, and others in our industry, currently use. Then, the older seasoned members jumped in and told them if they wanted dramatic creatives in their affiliate communities they would just be dressing up a platform for a formal ball and not providing anything for business communications.

It is a culminating battle of discussions out there. ADOTAT (Pesach Lattin) published a huge article on this a couple of months ago. In it he had blended his discussions with a couple of dozen firms who had expressed a need to "down turn" this over the top intrusiveness with over the top creatives, endless pop-ups, etc., etc.

Even Bill Maher touched on this in his August 8th episode about how everything he does now is touched by AI with every web page and every app telling him what a great job he is doing with what ever task he is accessing.

People are fed up with it! I'm fed up with it too!

YouTube!! Among others, of course.

Same here. On my phone, too.

Absolutely! I find too, that I have even less patience these days when it comes to that stuff and abandon at first sniff that it's going to be a distracting/irritating crap fest.
