I first came across the loving-kindness meditation while visiting the Buddhist Retreat Centre in Ixopo, Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa during 2012. It is very powerful and is the meditation I most recommend when one wants to cultivate love for oneself.

Each sentence is an in-breath or out-breath long.
For best results, repeat the entire mantra 4 times, twice a day.

For the "May you" component of the mantra, think of a loved one where a healthy relationship is already established such as your mother, intimate partner or spous.

May I be filled with loving-kindness.
May I be free from inner and outer dangers.
May my mind and body be well.
May I have ease and happiness in my life.
May I be freed from self-doubt.
May I be happy.
May all things go well for me.

May you be filled with loving-kindness.
May you be free from inner and outer dangers.
May your mind and body be well.
May you have ease and happiness in your life.
May you be freed from self-doubt.
May you be happy.
May all things go well for you.
Practice this meditation for 30 days and be in awe of howe ot makes you a happier, friendlier and more patient human being.

I’ve found that using a powder incense burner during meditation helps me settle into a calmer state faster. The slow burn keeps the scent consistent, and it helps keep my focus sharp. I’ve tested it during both guided sessions and silent sittings—both ways it adds a chill vibe to the space and makes the whole session feel more grounded.

I've never practiced meditation. It's an interesting topic, but there’s no one in my circle who does it. Where exactly should I start learning about meditation? Just sit in silence? Do I need to think about something or say anything out loud?

You can sit in silence, that's one way. There are also walking meditations, as well as the traditionally thought of type, guided or not. Other types, as well.

There are tons of meditations on YT. If any of them are selling courses, don't buy them unless you truly want to, no need.

Lots of how-to meditate videos for beginners on YT, too. I don't personally think people need those, really. Go someplace where you'll be undisturbed for a however long you want to meditate and take some deep breaths to relax. Then use your chosen method for however long you want. Try not to fall asleep if you're doing it at work. :rofl
