I heard that many companies choose to use media buy to get more traffic for their affiliate programs, I also want to try. Does anyone know if this method works for vaping products? Or do you have any other better idea?

Media buying is the process of purchasing advertising space or time across various media channels to reach a target audience. This involves negotiating with media outlets, securing placements, and managing advertising campaigns to achieve specific marketing goals. Media buyers work to optimize ad spend, maximize reach, and ensure ads are placed in relevant contexts to connect with the intended viewers.

Now it is a scalable position. For example, a local shoe store owner may do this by contacting the relevant local print ad space providers, communications channels (radio, tv), and local alternative display options (think air writing, blimps, fairs, etc.), and of course internet, to find a good pattern among them to fit their budget.

Now think of a bigger scaled operation for a statewide enterprise like grocery stores, furniture stores, etc. They simply then hire a media professional. or a media consultant, or a media company to do this on a larger scale.

To ask whether it is an option for the vaping industry, OF COURSE IT IS! Here's the thing, it is "scalable". This means media buying can be done small by a proprietor and/or be done by a large firm with department heads and a board of directors. You first need to isolate and identify your budget, and not for a one time effort. Advertising has loads of options and what you need to do is determine the budget for a "run" of advertising. A proper time period for extended exposure of your products and service being presented to the consumer.

In the CPA, CPL, pop-up, video, social channels, etc., we have long known we first need to find a few sets, or models, of the angles, hooks, triggers, and media combinations that produce results and then scale them up. It's the ad team that does this. Once they have scalable sets, they then turn it over to the media buyer(s) to find the proper channels by testing them and then they scale up the funnels.

All right, I understand now. Thank you for the detailed explanation. I think our company may have no budget about media buying, we prefer CPS Cost Per Sale) type collaborations. One of my colleague has tried media buying, however, he realized that the traffic generated through media buying was completely ineffective and failed to convert into actual orders. Do you have other idea to bring us traffic and orders? Thanks a lot, T J.

Yes, media buying can work for vape offers, but many platforms (like FB or TikTok) restrict them.
Try native ad networks or adult traffic sources where it's allowed. Also, use a fingerprint browser like AdsPower to manage multiple ad accounts safely and avoid getting flagged.
Let me know if you need traffic source ideas!

Hi, Leeho, I'll take it into consideration. But I'm worried about media buying will bring us invalid traffic, and it can't bring us orders.

A lot of mobile clicks on ads are error or *fat-finger* ad clicks --maybe 20%-30%. If you can get a 5%+ upwards to 20% conversion rate that ad is a "keeper" --until it's not.

Media buying is a skill, and if your colleague "tried" media buying it is no wonder it didn't produce. It is a skill, a developed skill. You can't just decide "I'll be a media buyer" and expect any positive results.

Media buying is very effective in terms of cost and effectiveness. However, if you do not test funnels, are skilled at building funnels, then you need to develop that skill first.

As for no budget, well that is a business restriction. Paid advertising is the quickest and most effective effort to attain positive and quick growth.

Yes, you're right. Maybe she did in the wrong way. I will try other ways to gain traffics before starting media buying again. Thank you, TJ.

My colleague told me that she tried media buying last year, the conversion rate is less than 5%, I don't know how she did it.

  1. all ads are not equal --sourced
  2. all ads are not equal --type
  3. all ads are not equal --restricted product
You are dealing with a restricted product in advertising --tobacco/nicotine or cannabis vapes?

This is something our clients ask us quite often,

it's quite simple. Create a video site where you cover topics similar to your niche, embed videos of your niche and similar niche ( even your competitors ) (use YouTube for example), make a good SEO description for the videos and add content regularly with a good unique description. In a few days first traffic, in a few weeks good rankings and good traffic. Offer your banners and products in between the videos. The traffic will be long term and steady earnings. Your sales will improve. Good luck.

@Anna Becky - it's a common concern, especially with budget constraints and the fear of unqualified traffic. the truth is, media buying can work for vape offers, but only with the right traffic source, targeting, and anti-fraud filters.
we operate a self-serve DSP offering push, pop, video, and direct redirect traffic with full control over GEOs, devices, OS, and timing. that means no blind buying — you choose exactly what, where, and how you want to run. we also work with partners who start on a tight budget and optimize based on results. Happy to chat and show what worked for similar product categories if you're open to testing the waters.

But actually, traffic is not easy. We uploaded a video on Youtube on April 20th, 2024, the video only got 51 views, this didn't bring us traffics. YouTube restricts advertisements for vaping products. So it doesn't work for us.

Hey Anna, yeah, media buying can work for vape offers, but it's not a plug-and-play solution, especially with all the ad restrictions out there.

Facebook, Google, and even YouTube are tricky with vape-related content. Native ads or traffic sources that allow adult or grey-area products might be a better fit. Just be extremely cautious, as not all traffic is of high quality, and a lot of it won’t convert unless it’s well-targeted.

If the budget’s tight, you might want to start small and test with something like push or pop traffic through a self-serve DSP. Additionally, content and SEO are slower, but they can yield solid long-term results.

Do I need to pay you firstly?

Media buying for vaping? That’s like trying to sneak snacks into a movie theater… the security (ad platforms) are watching you hardI think
I think so. I'm here to find someone who has successful vaping media buying experience to help me. Do you have other better idea to gain traffic?
