Inbound marketing can simply be put as a way of pulling/attracting customers through a good content instead of pushing content and forcing for them to go through it.
 
Inbound =organic search, referrals, social media posts (people find [or are led] to you), email customer or opt in lists to return to your website
Outbound =display advertising and any form of creative advertising, most directive advertising (e.g.; AdWords, Bing Ads, CPC) {hey look at ME!}
emailing bought lists >(not existing customers)?
Oversimplification but to the point ;)
