Google has place for questions and answers related to Google product. I saw many people posted their website links in questions. My question is that how useful is posting website link on Google products forum. will it help page ranking?

While backlink building might not be ideal for question and answer types it might pay off to establish some type of open dialogue with your clients / customers. While maybe Google's platform is not the best there are a few really good question and answer sites out there that let you build nice profiles with links back to your site. If you become an authority on a certain niche or really helpful in general you may establish a following or group of eyes to bring back to your website. Question and answer sites can have a lot of value for everyone when used correctly.

While backlinks might not be appropriate in every setting, it is true that they can be helpful most of the time. Even if they're not followed, you are providing a way for people to reach you if they need to...for follow-up questions, or because they are curious about which company you represent & products you support. It may not boost your SEO rankings, but it is a good idea for communication in general (and there is a slight chance that it would boost your SEO ranking, depending on situation).
