I’d like some advice regarding a business we’re starting.
We are launching a mobile app which allows users to make savings with certain major US online retailers. Our business model is to take a cut of the saving the user/online shopper makes.
We are not seeking to earn affiliate commissions. However, since our users will be completing purchases online, someone could earn an affiliate commission from the purchase?
I was wondering whether the following could work.
-An affiliate/publisher advertises our app on their site.
-We get downloads of our app as a result.
-When the app user makes an online purchase through our app (the user must complete the purchase using our in app browser in order to make the saving) we add the affiliate ID of the site that referred the user to us, to the user’s shopping session in our browser.
-Therefore the affiliate earns the commission (providing they are an affiliate for that particular retailer).
As payment for advertising our app, all purchases the user makes with multiple retailers can be credited to the affiliate for a period of 90 days.
Anyone have any comments whether this has been done before or if it could/could not work for any reason? Either in terms of technical limitations or business practice.
