Why the .xxx would anyone want a top-level domain for porn?

I found this Gurdia article on .XXX facinating:
The idea of a ".xxx" web suffix for porn sites is the internet's vampire: it seems nothing can kill it. Censors often oppose it because they believe anything that can be construed as legitimisation of pornography will hinder their efforts against it. Civil libertarians oppose it on grounds such as the threat of it being used to marginalise a wide range of material having to do with sexuality. Adult webmasters widely view it with suspicion, as anyone who has a ghettoisation scheme to "help" them usually isn't doing them a favour.

Well, there are so many porn sites out of there. It would make sense that they have a domain extension dedicated to them.
I would rather have all the porn sites move to the .xxx extension and free up all the .com, .net or .org suffixes for non-porn sites. It will make people who are not looking for porn websites less likely to enter one by mistake.
But anyway, it is not part of the proposal to force all the porn sites to move to the .xxx extension.

Porn site are a fact of life, love them or hate them they are here to stay.
There must be a way to regulate them. Only the other day my 16 year old daughter got a porn popup.
Popups should be banned for porn.
To access porn sites there should be stricter rules to prove age,i dont have the answer to this but someone must.
Personally i would ban the lot.But then again i have a lovely family and wife (and vaseline is expensive here!!!)

I agree with you, my preferrence is to ban them but you can so we may as well control it by moving then all to their own sin bin .xxx

I do agree with temi. I am with you Temi. We can control all porn sites by moving all to their own sin bin.

Banning them if they are legal is not an option. People have as much right to view porn as they do to buy bibles (and I am a Christian not a pronwebmaster) :D

the .xxx domain is a perfect idea. governments could then pass a law that states that all pornographic sites must have this extension. if they don't then shut them down. they can be easily blocked by browsers etc as well.
