Search Engine Optimization is one of the best tools under Digital Marketing, and if used effectively it will create wonders to your business. When we read articles online about SEO, the search engine would direct us to innumerable links with abundant information. We will definitely come across the term Back link.

What is a back link?

A link which directs us from one website to its own page is called a back link, also called as an inbound link or hyperlink. It is a fact that the number of back links judges the credibility and ranking of your page. Not just the number, but the quality of back links is what matters the most. The links must be relevant and related to what you are trying to exhibit/convey to the web users. For example, if your product/ area o information is based on Information Technology and your back links are directed from cooking recipes, it indicates poor quality of the back links. Quality back links are the major metric for the rankings of your webpage.

There are different terminologies related to this!

Link Juice: When the articles in your page are linked to a web page, it passes a link juice. It improves the ranking and domain authority of the website.

Anchor Text: Text which is hyper linked or used for hyper links is known as anchor text. Anchor text and back link prove to be a great combination for increasing web traffic.

Do follow link: This is another term used for back links and by default, all the links that are added to a blog post is called as a do follow link.

No follow links: Links that do not lead us to any website and does not pass any link juice is called as no follow links. They are not effective and do not help with a website’s ranking.

Low Quality links: Links that lack relevance, spam links, automated site links, harvested site links which harm the web page are called as low quality links.

Internal links: The links in a page which directs the users to the same page again in the same domain are called as internal links.

Linking Root Domains: This refers to the number of back links directed to a unique domain. It will be considered as one linked root domain irrespective of the number of connections.

Creating back links is the most basic and mandatory step for website building. Just creating a great website will not fetch web traffic. Keeping track of back links is also to be taken care of. The Domain stats tool can be used that will show the back links of a domain in Google, Yahoo and MSN. It also tells us how many pages from the website have been indexed, the listings in the Open Directory and Alexa traffic rank. The Back link Builder helps you to track the quality of the created inbound link. This adds appropriate key words to the content and also helps us find websites that are related to you which can be asked as a link.

Anchor text is another effective tool in Search Engine Optimization. Instead of just putting “Click Here” or “For further details”, when a link consists of words related to the website, it improves your quality back links scores.
