My first screen: Title, URL, and description meet guideline...not spammy is a good start.

well I guess if one has a good and serious site and really wants it to work, one should not worry about getting accepted in directories :)

What happens if your submitted site is not approved in the category you submitted it to? Do you get an email about (non)approval? Will the submission be declined for ever or will it be passed on to right category, even if it has another editor?

I am trying to get hostingspeeds.com included the dmoz directory under hosting directories, but no reply so far (know it can take a long time).

Ahh Jan,
Dmoz is another thing. Some people say you have to bribe a Dmoz editor to get into DMOz this days or just wait and see if you site is accepted. I have try adding this site a few times about 2 years ago but still no luck and I have other sites which has been approved and yet other site I did not submit to Dmoz at all and I found its listed in dmoz

so with dmoz there are no hard and fast rules but if you know a DMOZ editor it certainly helps.

If the submission is not a spam and just in the wrong category, the editor moves it to the right category. Some editors simply delete it, or some put in another wrong category.

No, not when I was an editor.

Yes, very long. I imagine this category is highly competitive and overflooded with submission (well, you know your competitors better than I do). I imagine it's very boring category for the editor too.

Also, if your competitor is the editor for the category, you might have no chance at all if he is unethical.

Sorry but your wasting your time trying to get hostingspeeds.com into hosting directories, as it is not a directory per se. Your site is more of a portal resource site than a directory (sorry).

One of the main reasons for a site being rejected is applying to the wrong category. The second biggest is wrong title. Submitting to DMOZ should not be rushed, you must take your time and submit to the right category.

Temi, it certainly does help if you know an editor and you will be surprised how many there are, and where they hang out ;)

Hmm...I sense an editor. I better shut up since I am officially retired.

Anyway, how it goes OWG :D

it goes fine Pinyo, my house is almost finished now, I am planning on getting back working in January after having taken some time off.
