What Matters More Than CTR?

CTR only tells me that people were interested enough to click—it doesn't tell me whether the campaign attracted the right audience.
The next metric I usually look at is cost per meaningful action (whether that's a registration, qualified lead, purchase, or another business goal). A high CTR paired with a low post-click conversion rate often signals a mismatch between the creative and the landing page, or that the targeting is attracting curiosity rather than genuine intent.

I also like to compare CTR alongside engagement quality. Metrics such as bounce rate, session duration, or the percentage of users reaching key pages can reveal whether visitors are actually exploring or leaving immediately after the click.

Ultimately, I've found that the strongest campaigns aren't necessarily the ones that generate the most clicks—they're the ones where every stage of the funnel stays healthy. A slightly lower CTR with stronger downstream performance will outperform a click-heavy campaign almost every time
