What makes a better lead magnate?

Hi guys,

What makes a better lead magnate? An ebook or a gift card?

A lot of the email marketing guides that I've read online talk about giving away an ebook in exchange for the email address.

But I read about a Fan Club Method (on another forum) where the prospect signs up for the fan club mailing list and enters for a chance to win a gift card (eg a $50 Walmart gift card).

Is this a good idea? Doesn't this create a list of freebie seekers (aka bad subscribers?)

a Magnate is not a Magnet
A gift card is probably a better lead magnet as it is easier ... People are basically lazy

What makes a better lead magnate?

This is completely dependent on your audience and where the magnate is being presented, what results you expect from the magnate, and are you targeting a specific audience.

eBooks, gift cards, etc. are generic. There are an abundance of audiences that will have no interest in either.

Can you be specific about your needs please? How you are developing your traffic and targeting your traffic? Are you already collecting emails and building lists?
