Understanding Conversion rates

What is considered a good conversion rate? i.e at what percentage do you convert before you say " any more editing, wont produce any better conversion" and start focusing on traffic.

Also, what is considered poor conversion, what numbers would be a red flag for either poor copy or too much leakage in your website?

Third, how much does your merchants conversion rate effect your own?

e.g if a merchant page converts at 2%, v.s a merchant page that converts @ 5 %, assuming everthing is the same otherwise. how much would that truly effect your conversion?
