Tagging and segmenting subscribers

I was wondering if it's possible to tag and segment my subscribers based on what they are buying through my affiliate promo's.

Lets say I send out an email for an affiliate offer and a subscriber converts, can I track that sale > automatically connect it to that subscriber > and put him/her on a different list/segment?

How do you guys do this?

I believe you can do that! you would track and tag buyers, you can do like:
http://YourAffiliate.link/123?s1=

or if you like me worry about privacy you can pass other unique parameters to the affiliate url like:

http://YourAffiliate.link/123?s1=[subscriber_id]

and use this on your email campaign. each subscriber will get a unique link.

From you affiliate campaign report you can see which subscribers have converted. you can segment them. and you would want to exclude those from further campaigns to the same offers. other wise they would complaints.

Every subscriber should have unique ID -- you pass that id in a tracking parameter.
$cuid = ip2long($ip) . "-" . substr($random,5);//PHP solution
That is a table index()

Segmenting opens is very inaccurate today many images and JS pixels are blocked.

Clicks can be logged at the landing page easily

I would be more interested in;
  1. the emails sequence send [1-?] repetitions
  2. some demographics
  3. source of the subscription (what squeeze page the subscription was from)
The above $cuid value would act as the key (index) for these attributes in the database.
