HI I am new and need help

Just wanted to introduce myself. I am new here. My best friend from college and I are currently thinking about starting a website. We have been researching a lot but I am have difficulting detemining our revenue potential. Our site will be a free service to members (not a blog) and we are hoping to promote merchants and retailers through adds on our site and recommendations from us.

Any help is greatly appreicated. We are trying to determine our revenue so we can see if it is feasible for us to invest in the cost of the website development, hosting, SEO, etc.
