Sell the sizzle or the steak --or maybe both?

"Some marketing experts say that all sales copy—including the copy on your website—should be expressed not in terms of features (a product’s properties) but in terms of benefits (how the product helps the user).

That advice is harmful.

Or, at best, confusing.

You should sometimes state the features, sometimes state the benefits, and often state both. ...

Sell the company, sell yourself, sell the product, and you don't have to sell the price!

If you are selling a car, ask the prospect to have a seat in the drivers side to get a feel for the car. At the same time kneel down next to the drivers seat so they can't get out. You MUST control the situation and do it with poise! This can adopted to most any practice in our industry too.

I get what you are saying, but it will fall on many deaf ears here because few have the substance to actually appreciate Elmer Wheelers meaning of it all. Something to keep in mind is that while selling the sizzle, you can be offering a bite at the same time!

While emphasizing the benefits is crucial to show customers how a product can improve their lives, highlighting the features can provide valuable information. It's like describing a delicious steak – you need to mention it's perfectly seared (feature) and how it melts in your mouth (benefit). So, for effective marketing, it's a combo of sizzle and steak, giving your audience the full flavor of what you're offering! ️

Don't sell the steak --sell the sizzle.
I heard that 40 years ago ... Hardly original, just elaborated to what end IDK?
