Hello,

I need some decent quality web site templates, either free or at a reasonable cost. I looket on the net, there is a large offer, but I am interested in personal suggestions. :)

There are tons of templates out there, but many are not designed well
to help you get good search rankings. In fact many are HORRIBLE for SEO.

I like to recommend GoldenPineCone.

She builds CLEAN templates, most of which are already SEO'd
and she even builds templates specifically for James Martell's affiliate training and the SEO Web Site Builder. Most are under $100, which for SEO'd, XTML validated, easy to update templates are a STEAL!

What's your time worth? You could start with a free template, waste months only to find it's not great for SEO, rebuild or tweak and lose months of income in the process.

You just need to be sure to get the right template based on what you are using to build your sites. Dreamweaver, FrontPage, HTML or whatever.

Also you get GREAT images that are legal and licensed.
Here's some examples. http://www.goldenpinecone.com/Samples/801/index.html

Dig starting at home page to find all the different categories and options.

Happy site building!

Find the best web templates

For the best templates for website development, I would recommend www.freelayouts.com. You will get free templates there too. Or you may need to pay some charges.

I can suggest MonsterTemplates.com ($70 per template) or if you are looking for some ideas, DreamTemplate.com ($70 for unlimited access).

I've used both in the past; MT has better quality templates, whereas you can get some good graphics and ideas from DT dirt cheap.

Good luck!

Here are some more free template sites I had bookmarked.

NOTE: I don't bookmark unless things look really good!
But I ALSO DON'T HAVE TIME to research very thoroughly so always check to be sure templates validate and are good for SEO.

I think these are all free and there are TONS of good one.

You can also search by how strict and what type of validation you want, prmary and secondary colors and whether its a CS template.

Beautiful clean FREE CSS templates

These are also beautiful, clean and FREE

Plus at Solucija you can get sNews a completly free PHP and MySQL driven content management system for managing web content. Consisting of only one file, sNews is extremely lightweight, easy to install, and easy to use via a simple web interface.

One of the best features of sNews is that it can be set up to use any (X)HTML template in minutes.

NOTE: I've not tried Snews but have looked several time and thought it looked good. However I'm not sure what advantage it would have over WordPress which is also free and has tons more free templates and plug-ins. So just an option for those of you who like checking out, well.... free options. :p

Just checked out all the web links to template sites and there's some pretty good stuff.

Are there any sites out there that provide bespoke designs services as I don't want anyone else to have the same design as me.

Hey All, this is an older post, and I was hoping to get it started again in 2010.

Where's a good place to get some good, free or low cost SEO'd WordPress templates these days?

On a related note about adding a Wordpress blog to an existing site, does anyone have an idea on which naming convention for a blog (below) would have the best effect on search engine rank? or does it make a difference at all?

blog.existingdomain.com
existingdomain.com/blog
newdomain.com

blog.existingdomain.com
existingdomain.com/blog
newdomain.com

There are advantages to each one, but if you use either #1 or #2 for a new site you'll reap some of the ranking of the existing top level site. With #3, in the long run, it might provide better value in terms of linking back to existingdomaon.com if you promote and optimize it properly but that will be a longer process.

Minstrel- Can you expand upon some of the advantages to using either #1 or #2?

There is not as much difference these days as there used to be in how Google treats subfolders vs. subdomains but both can derive some branding and link juice from the main domain. The following, although it's an older article, may help:

Folders vs. Subdomains

I've heard a lot of praise about the Thesis theme. I bought it but never got around to using it. Not the themes fault, I just don't do blogging.
