Aspiring Affiliator

Hello,

I am thinking of becoming an affiliator. My understanding is that first I need to develop a web site on some saleable product and to get some traffic. Only after that I would apply to the affiliate program.

My question is how specific should be that website? Should I promote a specific model or I can promote a certain type of products? Let's say for the sake of an example, that I am promoting bikes. Should I promote a certain model from a certain manufacturer or just bikes and general and direct the traffic to Amazon? So, Amazon will present visitors all options.

What does affiliator mean? <not a word in English

Probably both --General topic and associated interests then some specific product types like trail bikes, city bike (electric and pedal), etc.
