These are not plugins. These are scripts. It's been a while since I used WP, but I remember adding scripts. I'll see if I can dig up my notes about it.

WordPress has a built in 'malfunction' when updating the theme you use:

1. any manual edits that you have done to the parent theme being updated are overwritten by the update.
2. the solution is to use a child theme with your 'custom' edits that will not be updated
3. or have a plugin to the base code that will be maintained as to be compatible with the WordPress version in use ...

So simple
