Advice needed: building an affiliate program for a startup

Hi, guys, I run marketing for a startup. We make B2C multichannel communications widgets (like a better chat popup that also knows how to talk via SMS, VOIP call, Facebook Messenger, Skype, etc) and have a freemium plan. I'm building an affiliate program and have gotten us set up on Tapfiliate.

What do you think is the best way to get affiliates?

Most of our customers are small and medium online businesses, lots of ecommerce but not exclusively. I was thinking bloggers, web developers and small marketing agencies/consultancies would be the way to go, as they're the ones in a position to recommend our product. Is this right? How do I reach them effectively? We don't have a ton of resources.

Your advice is appreciated.

I'm in a similar situation currently but here's what I'd recommend based on what I've learned so far...

Put together the following, then reach out to CPA agencies:

- Service offer landing page (for review and possible use)
- CPA rate (how much you expect to pay affiliates per action)
- Countries you're targeting (and excluding)
- Traffic types you're looking for (banner ads, text links, social network marketing, search engine marketing, email marketing, mobile display ads, incentive advertising, etc etc etc)
- Most importantly: Your monthly budget

Obviously, a higher budget will make you more attractive to the CPA agency as well as affect potential affiliates.

The CPA agencies are nice because they (generally) already have the audience you're looking for.

Hope this helps and good luck with your startup!
