Will Google Transition to SMO From SEO?

I've read numerous updates about Google and what they have been up to, in terms of focus and benefits for webmasters. From what I can gather, Google seems to be favoring the SMO side of the web, rather than the SEO, both on and off site.
Has anybody else seen this trend or experienced this slight change?

I agree that SMO is very popular but I don't think that Google will replace SEO by SMO as still SEO is more effective and famliar and we all know the affects of SEO.

I don't think it will be replaced but I think it will come down to a an even need for both.
