You need in order to get a better quality traffic - organic, that comes from search. It's a well-known fact that the majority of clicks comes from the websites listed first in SERP (search engine results page). These websites are more trustworthy for users, so you only win from it.

You see while you walk on the road in the streets, there are shops on the side that sell things. You keep looking to see which one you want to buy from.
On the internet, the internet is the street that these shops are built on, search engine is the road that people walk on to find the shops. The shops are your website, their websites. If you optimize your website for search engine, then it gets found by the side of the road from passersby or someone actively looking for something you have.
