Web 2.0 friendly

I've incorporated web 2.0 strategies like SEO and blogging into some of my clients and noticed sometimes it doesn't work so well. Are there certain industries that they just don't work for? Or conversely, which are the ideal industries for this type of work. I'm hoping to know best who to market these two, and who to avoid.

Hmmm, well 1st off I don't really think of SEO as Web 2.0 and everyone needs and can benefit from SEO, right? Did you mean SMM?

As far as blogging I'm sure it depends to some degree on the industry but it seems that with the right strategy any company would benefit.

HI

It's one thing for your clients to get into web 2.0 strategies, but it's another thing to do it right. These are social websites - a community, and they expect genuine "community" participation. If your clients come in armed with their sales pitches, the community is fully aware of this and becomes wary. Your clients need to take the time and effort to TRULY communicate and become part of the community, and to give to the community. And each community site is different and needs to be treated differently.

Take for example, Facebook - it was founded by ex-Harvard university students - FOR THE STUDENTS. So initially, the community members were highly qualified academic people. Facebook has been rapidly opening its doors to the general community. But, the hard core is still there, and they strongly resist change and are certainly averse to their site becoming open slather to commercialism. Any attempts to approach them with sales pitches is an insult to their intelligence. A better way to be accepted would be from the point of view of contributions to charity, the environment and other worthy causes etc.

So once again, your clients can't just lob on the social sites' doorsteps and expect to have their sales pitches accepted and welcomed with open arms. It takes some research and participation - maybe your clients failed here.
