Any ideas on how much to pay for a good tracking system?

It depends on what you want to track. Web traffic..? Sales..? Affiliates..?

An excellent tracking system for affiliate marketing is Prosper202, which is free, open source, and can be installed on your own server.

Tracking202 the self hosted solution of the same script, and is also free.

I would like to track how long it takes for customers to sign up for offers/which publisher the lead was generated from so I can tie it to a specific campaign...I would want to get a tracking system from an advertiser's point of view.

What you are looking for is an affiliate tracking solution. Just like with cars there are different types that are suited for different purposes and a wide price range.

There are also 2 main options. Software or network.

If you tell me the type of product I can give you some more direct answers but in part it depends on what type of product you are selling. Please don't go into specifics about your product, just the general category then I can give you the best options.
