SEO & Backlink Advice for an iGaming Affiliate Site

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a new iGaming affiliate/review project and I’m trying to understand the safest long-term way to build backlinks in a competitive niche.

For newer affiliate sites, what usually works best?

Do you focus more on community mentions, directories, guest posts, partnerships, digital PR, or creating useful tools/content that can attract links naturally?

I would appreciate any advice from more experienced affiliates.

A lot of affiliate sites obsess over backlinks while publishing content nobody would voluntarily read without being financially threatened first.
In competitive niches, I’d focus on building:

• topical authority
• branded searches
• real traffic sources
• partnerships/community visibility

not just raw backlink volume.

Links still matter, obviously. But weak sites with “SEO-only” backlinks are getting easier and easier to spot.

Good points. I’ve actually been trying to move more in that direction with BestNorthCasinos by focusing on useful content, trust, and tools instead of just backlink volume. Interestingly, Bing still keeps suggesting I need more backlinks, so it sometimes feels like mixed signals depending on the platform

I think Bing is still more link-sensitive than Google in many niches.

But even there, low-quality link velocity can become a footprint fast, especially in affiliate verticals.

The interesting shift right now is that search engines seem to evaluate whether a site behaves like a real brand or just an SEO project.

Useful tools, branded searches, repeat visitors, mentions, and engagement signals are becoming harder to fake at scale.

Backlinks still matter, but they probably work best now as reinforcement of existing trust rather than the entire strategy.

That makes a lot of sense actually. I’ve started moving more in that direction with BestNorthCasinos — focusing less on mass pages and more on making the site feel like a real brand with tools, updated reviews, trust sections and a stronger Canada focus.

I also reduced my sitemap heavily and started improving the quality of the core pages instead of trying to scale too aggressively too early.

Interesting that Bing still seems more backlink-focused though. I’ve definitely noticed different signals between Bing and Google lately.
