What do I need to do to start a follow along. I when I try and create a thread it says I do not have permission.

Are you trying to add a link? You are required to have ten posts to add links to a post or thread.

Nope, I typed the whole post and then when I clicked clicked create thread a popup appeared saying I don't have permission. There were no links in the post.

It is ten posts as I don't have that many currently.

Graybeard is likely correct if it isn't links. If you are typing foreign characters into the post, it will be rejected.

there are also errors when using any non-standard latin (English) characters -- like accented vowels for example. Some symbols too.
No point in listing it all out -- that just gives the spammers a list of don't dos

Hmm to be honest I don't think there were special characters. I will just get my count upto 10 and try again.
