A little update here:

After talking to one of our users we've decided to separate upsells from initial sales for better optimization.

So, if you want Voluum to differentiate them, set up a custom conversion for upsells. This way when a visitor converts on your offer, his initial sale will be considered as a conversion and shown in 'Conversions' column. Then, any additional sale made with the same click ID will be considered an upsell and shown in 'Upsells' column.
