New Social Media Sites?

What is the newest and greatest social media/social network site out there these days in your opinion?

I am still a pretty strong proponent of Google Plus. While Facebook is good for connecting with people who are already aware of you and your product/content, I've found that Google Plus is a lot better at matching you up with people who don't already know who have similar interests.

Google Plus is alright, I suppose. I still feel Facebook is the very best though. I'm not one for meeting new people online; I'd rather meet them in person, then add them to my social network.

I HATE Google plus. Are you kidding me? It's the ugly stepchild of the social networking scene that is mostly used by webmasters who promote their websites or businesses. To me that's not a good place to spend your time as a regular visitor. You know it was created by Google to compete with Facebook, but what really makes me hate it is that Google forces it on you from EVERYWHERE including adsense, search, gmail etc.

I created a page and then promptly abandoned it just to make Google stop with the annoying reminders.

Fair point. I won't be spending my time there to see what my old high school friends are up to. But, to network with folks I don't already know? Yeah, I'm at Google plus for that. Hangout sessions with likeminded folks? Yes, please! I've connected with so many people there and I don't have to deal with seeing them post memes or political snark or "Like this if you hate Cancer" or anything like that.

You know, I don't think it really was meant to compete with Facebook. To me, they have separate goals. But, you get out of it what you put in.

I think the "newest" that still counts as "great" is Pinterest. It's not in direct competition with the general social network trio: Google Plus, Facebook, and Twitter. It's huge for the female demographic, though, and people spend hours there every day, so it's potentially great for traffic.

Google Plus seems to be the next generation of social networking. Although, I am very dis-satified with their services. My last name is a 2 letter word, and they were not able to accept such as short last name, because the average last name consists of 5 or more letters.

I'm really surprised to see so many people listing Google Plus. Yes, it's new and it got a lot of attention. People seem to be leaving from there on a regular basis, though, and I'm no longer seeing nearly as much buzz about it any more. It's still used sometimes, but it seems to be an after thought for a lot of people.

I think Google Plus and Pinterest would be making waves. Google Plus would be a tough counterpart of Facebook while Pinterest would be a great tool for visual marketing.

I'd say Google Plus, it isn't THAT well know atm, but I'm sure it will be in the future.

I find it funny that you say that. It made huge waves to begin with and then has drastically dropped off since then. I think the only way people will know it 'more' later is because Google is integrating it all together and making almost everyone have an account. That doesn't mean they'll know what to do with them, though, or even know that they have an account.

There was some buzz over Pheed, so I went over there and got an account with my full name so nobody else would get it. Several months later, I got two porn sites that connected to me on there for some reason :/ even worse, I can't delete them off my account. Lovely.

I've never even heard of Pheed.

Can you not contact the owners and get your account deleted or something to remove the connection?

I totally agree with this. Pinterest is a great way to market your content. I use it to promote the articles I write all the time :).

I did contact them, they basically gave me a non-answer (in other words they wouldn't remove them manually). They just said that the platform doesn't currently support removing people yet.
