Need a bit more information to start

There is plenty of information here and on YT, but I still feel I miss some bits to start.

For a couple of months, I stuck with idea to start an affiliate marketing campaign - ideally, with paid traffic as I have a background in programmatic advertising and traffic optimisation. Currently, my main blocker is getting affiliate links to promote.

Despite reading and watching some webinars, I appreciate responses to those questions:
  1. What existing newbie-friendly affiliate networks with NOT only nutra or adult offers could you advise? My current goal is rather learning than making a fortune, so I would like to start with something I would enjoy working on.
  2. Should I actually create my website before applying to an affiliate network? What this website should be about - is it like a nicely looking visit card website? Because I do not want to work on a proper website/blog and learn SEO strategies before getting an affiliate link. At least yet...
  3. Is there a way to get a mentor in affiliate marketing? I love planning and following my plans, but so far, all my plans have not been really helpful - I feel more information is needed for a good plan.

Thank you in advance, and I hope I post it correctly. It is literally my first ever post on the real forum :)

What existing newbie-friendly affiliate networks with NOT only nutra or adult offers could you advise?

There are an abundance of newbie friendly networks listed in our Resources area. Look through them, contact them and ask them if you are a candidate with them.

Also, post a new thread of your own in the Business Forum stating what you are looking for from an affiliate network. Networks typically keep an eye on that sub-forum and will respond with their availabilities.

My current goal is rather learning than making a fortune

That is the only way to success in this, or any, business.

so I would like to start with something I would enjoy working on.

One of the first lessons is to know that you are in need of liking the business, not the niche. We all work primarily in niches we have found a passion to work with, but that came long after learning the business through experimenting with various niches and various marketing practices. I started with MMO and dating, then went into content marketing in the "Manservant" industry (and with great success), but I settled into mostly content marketing in the travel and destination niches.

It's journey with many destinations.

Should I actually create my website before applying to an affiliate network?

You should have a personal website to start. The reason, the biggest reason, networks want you to have a website is for verifying you are who you say you are. Many newbie oriented networks may not have this requirement, but those networks that are well established generally want you to have a personal site for their verification requirements.

Be sure it is a professional looking site and descriptive of who you are and your background and experiences.

Is there a way to get a mentor in affiliate marketing?

This is along time misnomer. There are hundreds of thousands of them out there claiming to be your next mentor and none of them are mentors. They just want to suck you in to buying their courses and/or services.

Some of them have very successful training, but most are bunk. The thing about one on one training in that fashion is you are getting only one perspective. and support is sometimes a bit difficult for them.

Communities like AffiliateFix are where you want to set your ass in a seat to learn, at least in the beginning. Save your money for learning and implementing in the beginning. You have investments in the business and those need to be in place to start. Once your business is stable and earning steadily you can consider more advanced paid training.

The origins of mentoring is not what many think of them today. A true mentor is a professional in a field with exceptional experience that seeks a "protégé" to merge into the mentors personal disciplines and carry on the mentors works after they're gone. Today, too many so called "experts" in a field call themselves mentors for the express purpose of suckering noobs into some type of paid training which is completely contrary to the code of a mentor. As well, any and all true protégés indoctrinated by a true mentor is a well respected and successful person with their own well acknowledged past and experiences. A true mentor does not take on any form of newbie, not ever, they do not fit the needs of a true mentor.

I love planning and following my plans, but so far, all my plans have not been really helpful - I feel more information is needed for a good plan.

READ THIS and see if you have all of the pieces in place for a good plan.

Time is one of the most important factors. You must impart the time it takes for learning and implementing.

To really get started, and not be doomed to failure; You need both a genuine opportunity and a plan of execution. One foot in front of the other as well as the ability to pivot until you hit a sweet spot that you can run at full throttle --and make bank --coming out a long range winner.
