How to market effectively

have an idea for an innovative product, and I want to make prototypes, do tests, and place it on the market for maximum exposure so that I can collect nice royalties. Problem is that I don't have the money, equipment, or connections, and I don't want others to steal the idea or to scam me with inneffective services. How does an inventor protect and develop innovative ideas.
