Apparently, over 500,000 children surf unsupervised according to Ofcom. A new website is being launched to promote online saftey awareness among this age group.

My kids do and it is amazing how good google is at correcting their spellings and getting them to games sites mostly. I can't imagine how many times they click on the Adsense ads on these sites - fightening. I would never advertise on one of these sites for that reason.

My router has surfcontrol built in I need to enable it

Although I need to pay $50 per year, perhaps I'll wait as the safe filter is also quite good on search engines these days - cloaked porn is a thing of the past.

Lottie surfs alone, but I have educated her about the dangers of being online. they have their own local community to chat in, and she is not dumb whn it comes to the web.

My attitude is rather than block things, educate them of the dangers. of course I have safe image searhing on etc, and blocked words, but not all parents are s web savvy as me. so i prefer the educational route.

I think a lot of parents aren't as web savvy as your daughter!

My dad for instance has no idea how to use a computer. I could bore you to death with stories like when he tried to surf the internet and immediately typed in "great tits" into google (he's a keen bird watcher). Fact is, a lot of people see video games as a way to keep children quiet, and computers are like a video game, and the internet is part of a computer.

It IS getting less and less, on the very scary day when I get a child, I hope that I, like a lot of people, would've grown up with the internet and know how to use it in a safe and responsible fashion.

Then again, it's not an agist issue, my grandad in a year before he died bought me my first PC, he said it was for me, but it was really for himself, he loved it and managed to learn a little bit of HTML to make an (offline) web page, whereas people my age do still struggle with PC's.
