Free Trials and Affiliate Programs

Hi everyone! One of the programs I manage is going to start implementing a free trial on one of the products they offer. The product will still be available for purchase - none of that will change, but the free trial will be in place.

I've never managed a program with a free trial. How do you handle that when you have an affiliate program for this product? I want to make sure that we're implementing this in the most affiliate-friendly way. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Is the free trail temporary or permanent?

One thing that comes to mind is a very long cookie duration so the affiliate who sent you the customer for the free trail will get the commission when they come back to order on-line. Say, something that is about 60 days longer than the trail period of the product.

Thanks for your thoughts, Ron! It is for a vitamin supplement that our client offers. I think the trial is here to stay. The trial lasts for 30 days and the cookie duration is 90 days, so that should work out.
