Blog Permalink Question

What are the cons of removing the year and month in the permalink? What are the pros of keeping them in?

If I remove them will it affect me with the search engines?

I want to remove it because as my posts often readers view older posts as "outdated" and turn away.

Sorry I missed your question.

I'm not positive, but I don't think it matters. There's even a theme called dateless sniper that is designed to get good search rankings, but eliminates the dates which I guess would almost make the blog more like a CMS or article repository without dates for each article.
