Hey Affiliatefix community,

Today we’ll talk about the two craziest sales of the day - Black Friday and Cyber Monday

To get started, keep in mind that Black Friday Sale starts on Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States (November 29), followed by Cyber Monday on Monday. They both open the Christmas sales season. Traditionally, Black Friday was associated with the peak of retail sales in ordinary stores, then “cyber Monday” was for the online retail segment. However, today online retailers are no longer waiting until Cyber Monday and provide consumers with the best deals starting from Black Friday.

According to eMarketer, Cyber Monday spending reached $7.87 billion in 2018. Meanwhile, Black Friday brought about $6.2 billion in online sales and 23.6% of growth over the last year. In addition, according to Finder, men forecasted to spend nearly double that of women.

As for what customers want, the top products they were looking for last year on Black Friday included: clothing, tech, toys, smart-home gadgets, gift cards, and travel.

Do consumers use devices for shopping?

According to a recent study by SaleCycle, 34% of respondents are going to use the desktop, 17% will use mobile, and 30% said they would use both mobile and desktop for making purchases in 2019.

Besides, 75% of shoppers are looking for the best deals, 20% of them shop for certain brands and 3% choose the retailer who provides the best delivery options.

PART I: How to prepare a website for Black Friday

Understandably, your website will experience a surge of traffic, so you should ensure your website is ready by checking if there are any third-party components, overburdened APIs, web page loading time or low servers that can lead to a website slowdown. Also, make sure you have a high level of mobile functionality.

TIP 1. We suggest you deliver about 3 weeks prior to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. By doing so, you will have enough time to show your best deals, products and to see what items your consumers are looking for.
TIP 2. Do not neglect the retargeting option. Use retargeting to follow up with people and make them buy online via your website.
TIP 3. We suggest you place Black Friday Banners above the fold. This way, users will not miss your promotions and best deals.

Moreover, it would be effective to place extra navigation elements like “Discover Black Friday Deals” that will attract attention and consumers the most interested in Black Friday deals.

PART II: What the landing page should be?

We suggest you using the ODC model, that we described in our previous post.

Offer → Deadline → Call to Action

Offer. Show the product which will “hook” users.
Deadline. Use a countdown timer to show that the offer is limited.
Call-to-Action. Clarify what the user has to do.

The idea of urgency often leads to great results, especially on Black Friday Sales. Consumers tend to be more spontaneous under pressure.

Another effective strategy is to emphasize the benefits of the product. You put the image of the product, list the advantages, put old + new price and use call-to-action like “Buy now”.

Finally, people expect to have multiple payment options and quick delivery during Black Friday Sale.

Some creative insights from MGID team:
  • What is Black Friday from the point of view of a regular customer? Basically, it’s all about the queues: first, we spend at least an hour waiting to enter a fitting room, then another hour if the item doesn’t fit. Then about 60 minutes will be wasted in the checkout line. Online stores are the best option to avoid queues. This concept works well on ads. The texts about purchasing trendy items on sale with no shopping lines attract customers of all ages;
  • Other than overcrowded malls and lack of parking spaces, massive fights are other major troubles. Pushing on the idea to buy gadgets via the internet can make people breathe out with relief and grab a new smartphone they see on an ad in just a few clicks;
  • Focus on the following advantage of online shopping: a consumer has a chance to buy items in a few clicks without leaving his place. No need to waste time and nerves to go to different stores with the desired goods.

Great tips, Daniella!

I think being able to avoid the crowds, plus the ease of buying, are terrific promotion points. It's why I buy online. :)
