Photography is becoming an increasingly popular hobby and with the advent of cameras and photography-based apps on Smartphone's, more and more people are investing in photography as not only a hobby, but also a career. The fact of the matter is that people absolutely love photos (just look at the huge success of Instagram for example) and if you're one of these people, you might very well be looking to purchase your first DSLR camera. The great thing about DSLR's is that they're pretty cheap these days, whilst also offering a high quality photography solution. They generally take extremely high quality images and they fit a lot of technology into a small housing. However, a lot of DSLR's are still quite expensive in laymen's terms. Most of us probably don't have ?3,000 to spend on the latest Canon 5D Mkiii but don't worry, there are plenty of great budget DSLR's out there. Here are a few of them.
#1 - Canon EOS 60D

[caption id="attachment_872" align="alignnone" width="600"] Canon EOS 60D[/caption] Canon is of course one of the greatest and most well-known manufacturers of DSLR cameras out there and if you're looking for a great Canon camera on a budget, look no further than the 60D Since its release, the 60D has become an extremely popular camera not only with beginners, but also amateurs and even semi-professionals. It's pretty easy to see why too; for just ?630 (approx.), you get a camera that takes crystal clear images at 18 megapixels, has a high quality LCD screen, records video in full-HD and also, allows you to edit your photos on the camera (if you really want to). Not only this, but it's an extremely well-made and durable camera that is sure to last. It also has a nifty pivoting LCD screen which is perfect for obtaining those tricky shots. This camera would be perfect for anyone looking for a great beginner/mid-range camera.
#2 - Nikon D3200

[caption id="attachment_873" align="alignnone" width="600"] Nikon D3200[/caption] Nikon is another big name in the world of DSLR photography and their D3200 is one of the best budget DSLR's on the market by far. In terms of the price, it's pretty similar to the Canon 60D we mentioned above but you might argue that it's a better camera. For a start, this camera allows you to capture incredible quality images at 24.2 megapixels. It also has a Guide Mode (great for beginners), shoots full HD video and even has a wireless mobile adapter. In terms of the way it looks, it's pretty similar to the Canon 60D mentioned above and is relatively compact. It's perfect for anyone with around ?650 to spend that's looking for a great beginner camera capable of taking extremely high quality shots.
#3 - Nikon D5100

If you haven't quite got the budget for the two cameras above, then the Nikon D5100 might be the perfect DSLR for you. Coming in at around ?350, the D5100 is definitely one of the cheapest DSLR's on the market but it's also one of the best. It allows you to take high quality 16/2 megapixel images as well as full 1080p video. It also features an LCD screen and has a very intuitive design (perfect for beginners). It has a few cool options too such as the special effects that are built into the camera. These might not be the best special effects out there but they offer a good bit of fun to an all-round great DSLR. Sure, there might be better cameras out there but for ?350, it's almost guaranteed that you're not going to get a better camera unless you're prepared to buy second-hand.
#4 - Sony Alpha A57

[caption id="attachment_874" align="alignnone" width="600"] Sony Alpha A57[/caption] Sony is another big player in the world of DSLR's and their Alpha A57 is yet another fantastic option if you're looking for a great DSLR on a budget. It costs around ?500 and for that, you get a solid, well built camera that has plenty of features and controls. It has an electronic viewfinder as well as an LCD screen that swivels. It takes 16/1 megapixel photos and also allows you to record video in full HD. This is perfect for anyone looking for a camera that works with the Sony A-mount range of lenses. All-in-all, this is a great camera for the money it costs and is perfect for anyone looking for an extremely high quality DSLR on a budget.
Conclusion

DSLR's have certainly come down in price over the last few years and as you can see from the examples above, it's pretty easy to find a great quality camera without the hefty price tag. Yes, camera such as the Canon 5D and Nikon D800 are going to be a lot better, but they also cost 3 - 4 times the price of most of these cameras.
