Why Optimizing Your Affiliates’ Performance Works in Your Advantage

Last month I explained why it’s so important for you to incorporate affiliate marketing into your lead gen strategy. Today, I want to explain what to do after you start signing new affiliates. As an Account Manager, you should always try and help your affiliates optimize your campaigns. By effectively assisting them before and during the launch, you are ultimately helping yourself as their performance affects both your revenues.

To help you help your affiliates, here are a few steps to take and questions to consider:

Explore their website

Affiliate Marketing Checklist
Affiliate Marketing Checklist
Review your affiliate’s website and analyze it by considering the following list of questions:

How is their layout?
How is their content looking?
Do they need to add some content or delete some?
Is it relatable to your campaigns?
Are they running too many ads and their site just looks cluttered and uninformative?
Is it easy to navigate around their site?
Would you be comfortable with giving this website your personal information?

Figure out the best placement for your ad

Look through all the pages of your affiliate’s website and see where you would like them to place your ad/banner/text link:

Do they need to create another tab on their menu bar?
Will your ad be a fit for any of the existing pages?
Do they need to create a whole other page for your ad?
Do they need to write more content in association with your ad?
Should they create a whole new site that will work better with your campaign?

Let them know the best way of promoting you

Search Marketing

Does their website have great content and ranks high? If so, they can promote your campaign via SEO to get organic traffic. If not, are they able to include more related content to promote your offer via SEO?

Also, are they willing to spend some of their own money by promoting your campaigns via PPC? Their ROI could have the potential to be high if the users click the ad and complete the wanted action.

Social Media

Do they want to promote via social? Do they have social pages where you would be happy to get advertised?

Email & Newsletters

How about email? Make sure you approve the email first. You want to check each email to make sure it’s in compliance with all of your terms and conditions. Also, sign up for their newsletters so you receive their emails as another quick check.

Co-registration

Are you okay with being one of the many offers that are shown after a user signs up for something that could potentially be nothing to do with what you are promoting?

Incentivized traffic

Are you okay with the user only completing the action because they are receiving something for it? If not, then make sure you let the affiliate know.

Host & Post

Host and Post is a great way for your campaign to match the look of their site. Just check whether they are going to use other affiliates to promote your campaigns. Can they be transparent with who is running your campaigns?

Maintain a good relationship with your affiliate

By keeping consistent contact with your affiliate, you are showing that you are attentive and helpful, which entices affiliates to work with you. Always returning calls and replying to emails will help grow your relationship. Likewise, tracking your affiliates’ performance will help you determine when you should step in and provide them with feedback and suggestions for optimization.

In addition, keep a file of all your affiliates with the last date of contact and what was talked about to help you remember when you should follow up.

By helping your affiliate succeed, you are helping yourself succeed as well. Next time you sign a new affiliate up, follow these steps to optimize their performance and I assure you that you will build a successful lasting relationship.
