At first, I didn't understand what exactly affiliate marketing was.
Right enough, I understood it's definition and how it worked.
Internally I rejected the notion that something such as *affiliate marketing*
could exist. The word affiliate just didn't sit right with me, haha. I get it now.
Basically, the gist of affiliate marketing IS customer acquisition.
That's really all there is to it.
As an independent affiliate (think publisher) business, the advertiser/merchant IS your client.
Rather than thinking about just making commissions, change your focus from competitive
tactic based marketing - playing catch up to OTHER affiliates and chasing your own tail to
being creative and strategic so that you'll be clear headed in designing a leading campaign
that will have staying power in the market place.
I'd like to imagine a scenario where I am an advertising agency, and where the client comes
to you to market their good or service.
And the job of the agency is to understand the clients needs and wants.
To understand the clients problem, is to know:
Think how big agencies operate and see why then it's important to have systems and departments in place
For example:
At the end of the day, all of this is to gain market share (dominating traffic sources), right?
For an affiliate's assets (websites, landing pages, lists, etc) to have long term value
it MUST build it's own brand equity WITHIN the marketplace.

- What do they want? More customers. More Revenue.
- What do they need? New customers. Increased Profits.

- Who are THEIR ideal customers?
- Where do they hang out?
- How can they be reached?
- How can you design and execute a stategy?
- What is the (yours ofcourse) budget?
