Hey everyone,

I have a question about domain names.

Recently I've been looking into a domain name in a certain growing technology and I'm finding that a lot of names are taken but they have nothing going on at the sites at all.

What about domain names like www.this-is-my-name.com instead of www.thisismyname.com? Are these acceptable and how are they with search engines? I need to know what to do asap before my names are taken. I already have tons of ideas for the site itself so it could be up in no time.

Thanks in advance,

Sheree

Hi Sheree,

Don't use long multi-word hyphenated names like this-is-my-name.com
as they look spammy and search engines don't like them as much.

Totally agree with Durga and that's what I was just coming to post.

I've had good luck at times with adding the #4 or 2 in front of keywords - 4productname or 2findcomputers. You can also try tacking words like village, junction, direct, guide, deals, solutions or some word that makes sense at the end. Another good one is starting the domain with "beyond". I scored BeyondGoodHealth.com awhile back which is a little long but still good.

There are some good domain finding tools. Here's one I use sometimes.
I searched for domains with MP3 just to give you an idea.

You can enter a 2 keyword phrase and come up with more options.

ONE big word of caution. If you find a really good one GRAB it.
I've heard of and even experienced finding a great name - thinking on it
and coming back 2 hours later to find it's gone. It's suspected that some
of the places that offer free domain tools, use your brain power to find a good domain
and then register it right away if you don't.
