Google always keeps changing its algorithms and so does our link building methods. Previously social bookmarking and directory submissions are considered as most effective way to build links but now a days doing these activities in bulk can consider spamming. But I think social bookmarking on good websites are still necessary for speedy crawling and caching of web pages.

Bookmarking is still working the thing is that u should hv to use fresh and quality content and choose high PR Bookmarking sites for posting.
