I am beginning to see that you can choose products to promote such as Clickbank or you can get products automatically generated on your site such as LinkShare. What is the best way to go and what generates the most money?

When you are brand new, don't start by picking products.

1st pick niche, THEN find products.

So for instance if niche was travel and luggage, Clickbank would not be a good fit, you'd want physical products like luggage, that you would find on Commission Junction.

As far as what's better, again depends on you and your niche. Lots like to promote eBooks and they do pay higher commish. Put I personally don't like eBooks/info products, so if I did affiliate marketing myself I would lean toward REAL products.

There could be some ebooks, but I'd check a good supplements affiliate program. Good herbal sites are Swansons and Vitacost and places like that. Shop and compare to see who has best affiliate program.

Or better yet, join Commission Junction where you can search and compare lots of programs. I think you can even search products, so use keyword like glucose and see what you can find. Then compare merchants based on highest EPC.

Or in reverse may be better in your case, due to being in health niche.

Research and find 2 or 3 of what you believe are the best products and most popular. (products you feel are actually good, that you would be proud to recommend.)

THEN find the merchants that carry the product, THEN find which ones have affiliate programs and shop and compare the programs.

I agree with Linda.. find a niche because it's easier to promote something that is within your comfort zone. However, it's OK to branch out of a niche if your main motivating factor is $$$$ over comfort. I hope this does not spawn a debate re: $$$$ or comfort/passion etc.

Also, look at the bigger picture. Some already popular products are not necessarily most friendly with affiliates. Select a product or service that is in its early stage of its growth because that's where the most earnings for affiliates will be. Being there early will give you the opportunity to get a bigger slice of the pie.

Really think hard about the product you offer. You may not want something that someone can run down to their local Walmart and buy. You want something that you can offer better pricing on or is harder to get etc.

I really like Amazon. People trust Amazon. And when people buy there, you get a commission from everything they buy when they are on your "cookie". I have had people buy all kinds of things I was not selling.

On another note, make sure you have a very clear disclaimer on your site that you are not a physician (unless you are) and you are sharing information but it should not be used as a substitute for a physician's advise etc.
