Recommend a site builder

I am a newbie and signed up with iPage and started using Weebly editor but was disappointed with it, it seemed very limited. So it was recommended by one of the support people that I try Joomla. Well I have been trying to wrap my brain around Joomla for the last 5 days.

It looks like a great program but it is extremely hard, and although this stuff is new to me I am a pretty savvy guy and can figure most stuff out, but this seems like a lot of training is required. I want to concentrate my time on building a website and not learning a complicated software system.

Can anyone recommend a good website builder? I was just looking at Wix.com and it looks like it might be pretty good, is anyone using it that can comment on it. If anyone is using a rockin good website builder that they really like please let me know what it is.

Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe,

I'd recommend dumping iPage and looking into a Wordpress site hosted on HostGator, BlueHost, or HawkHost and looking at the Wordpress Flexibility 3 theme.

It's pretty intuitive and you should have a site up in no time. Good luck!

Have you ever tried Wix? or heard anything good or bad about it? It keeps coming up as the top rated website builder. The drag/drop/edit features look good but I don't know what the pros and cons are of flash??

I am sort of leaning towards the Wordpress Flexibility 3 theme that you suggested. From all I have researched on it it looks like it is for blogging but I guess some use it foe niche websites too.

Does anyone have any more comment on these?
Thanks, Joe

Hi Jim, to answer your post there are really no shortcuts. We all have to learn something new but once you get the hang of it it gets easier. For me I use Komposer and I find it easy to use.

Joomla seems very non-intuative. I don't mind learning something new and I consider myself very good at learning new things and being able to figure things out but this one seems needlessly complicated. I'll keep looking.

Yes I wouldn't recommend Joomla to anyone new to the web. Much easier to start with Wordpress and migrate to something else if you find you need to later on.

I remember the days before Joomla, WordPress, Dolphin and others, I still prefer to build sites when I can one page at a time, using incudes and rotation scripts.

I personally think there are no easy ones there is still things to learn no matter which site builder you use. I use Blogger.com but that keeps changing. So I guess go with what you are most comfortable with.

Hi Guys, I use "Web Page Maker" myself, and didn't really take to long to get to grips with. I like it. I host my sites separately for $1.99.

Could dig out the installation file if anyone want to try it. You just install it, no codes as far as i can remember.

As 1charlie said - "What you are most comfortable with." Works for me.

I forgot to say what I use, I use Dreamweaver , I have CS3 right now. I started with Ultradev 4 Dreamweaver.
I can do most with notepad if I needed, dreamweaver just makes it faster. Like transferring an XL file of websites to a directory page, pretty simple
