A couple of weeks ago I came across an interesting tool to measure the loading speed of your website. The tool was created by Pingdom, and it basically loads your website, tracking the time at each stage of the process. It?s called Pingdom Website Speed Test.

Once the test completes you?ll with a score (varies from 0 to 100), the number of requests performed (i.e., how many elements were loaded), the total load time and the total size of your page.

Pingdom is a nice tool to use and to work with, but it is not good for small companies as it can be tool complicated. If you work for a small business, then you beed a universal tool that can monitor everything e.g. sites, servers, databases and so on. It is better to try Anturis (http://www.anturis.com)

I just use Google's service (http://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed). It's not as flashy and doesn't give all of the insights given by Pingdom, but it's really fast and tells you specific areas you could work on quickly. They also offer a service that can speed up your site quickly with a free solution.
