For several years Microsoft has offered small businesses and student's licenced software for free as a way to help them save money.

For small businesses they offer the BizSpark program which is open to any business earning less than $1,000,000 per year and is less than five years old.

For students there is also similar program called DreamSpark.

Both programs are free to join and include free licenses to the latest Microsoft software including Windows 8 and Office.

Included in the BizSpark program is a $150 monthly credit that can be used with Microsoft Azure which is Microsofts Cloud Hosting platform.

You can find more information about BizSpark @ BizSpark

And DreamSpark @ Microsoft DreamSpark - Students

My membership in BizSpark expired at the beginning of this year, but while I was member I saved $10,000's in the cost of software and hosting.

Also when your membership expires Microsoft allows you to keep any licenses you already have through the BizSpark program so you can keep using the software even though you're no longer a member.
