We are but fishies in the sea.

By "Website" we mean unique hostname (a name which can be resolved, using a name server, into an IP Address).
It must be noted that around 75% of websites today are not active, but parked domains or similar. [1]

**added (in afterthought)>Perhaps a partial explanation of the boom in domains and parked pages is the New gTLDs. I have bought quite a few short 3 to 5 letter domains in the new gTLDs. I am sure others have too. Will the Internet explode onto web 3.0 soon I really don't know -- but it is possible.

That's crazy how many websites came online last year in comparison to previous years. The web is going parabolic! haha.

30/100 of the websites are never used like the Domains For sale! xD i think because i had 6 domains and i used one and make money From that 1 the others were Ghost towns!
