Hi. What's the Purpose of an "Introduce Yourself" Forum??

I've always wondered about that. (Guess you can tell I have a head for the trivial stuff!) I mean, it's not like anyone's gonna remember "johnqsyz1995" later on in the other forums. And it's not like anyone's gonna get a response beyond "welcome," except maybe "how about them Red Sox" and an "oh, you're in Florida, too?!"

Maybe introductory forums are like captchas, something that was once useful but which over time just became traditional and obligatory...?

Nothing tricky or mysterious about it really... it's just a place to tell us a bit about yourself, your interests, and your background and experience... like moving into a new neighborhood and dropping over at the neighbor's house to say hello and borrow his major appliances.
