Hello all,

I am new here, used to do some blackhat IM a few years back but feel out of love with it tbh.

Want to get back in the game so to speak (not blackhat) but there is a serious amount to learn.
Here is my thing, where to start? I'm thinking niches, but I am like, this won't work, why anyone be interested?
Whats a vertical, whats a decent network, whats native, do I do social, like seriously there's so much info it's an absolute headspin.

Any guidance would be amazing, thanks in advance.

WELCOME ABOARD ...

How long have you been out of the game? and when you said you did social, you mean BH social?

And yeah, game has changed, as games tend to do, but mainly: the more things change the more they stay the same... or as my old friend would sometimes put it... same shit, different toilet paper!

There's more of everything in the last couple of years: more networks, more affiliates, more offers... so like with music, the more that is made, the more sub-genres become genres of their own, ad infinitum.

What do you mean by a decent network? One with good payouts? One with good support? One with many verticals (another way to say "genre" or offer type) and offers? The network you choose highly depends on what type of traffic you will bring. For instance: I've got a site that is media based and right now doing well in SEO. I'm getting close to 400 uniques / day and it is climbing every week. I just siged up with PropellerAds yesterday, put some of their many options up as ads, and I've already made $0.42 with cost per impression (CPI). They also have cost per subscription (CPS) which is new to me, and it looks like their cost per mil (CPM) on that is about 100x what CPI brings in, so I'll shortly be implementing that. Since the last time I did these types of ads, the options for the type of ad has grown immensely and is no longer banners, but more like Push Notifications, "Smart Links", mobile optimized ads, and all of that.

The nice part is that once you've chosen your path (doesn't by all means have to be the only path you choose) you can study your ad options usually on the network itself as most of them provide full documentation on your options, plus how to use their tools and resources.

I'd say that online marketing is in a heavy growth period right now and it's proliferating and morphing quite a bit, with a lot of experimentation being done by all of the networks.

I would also recommend on the BH side, looking into revshare, no matter if it's adult (a vertical), or porn or whatever, because that's the gift that keeps on giving. I am doing that through Invix Dating Solutions (they are in resources section of this forum) now and last year I made a nice chunk of change with them. My method only worked for a couple of months at the beginning of Q2 but I hit it hard, and with revenue share, I was still making money on my clients in December.

Most importantly, get started. No matter what direction, with some imagination and some smart work, you can make money with any of them (as long as they are decent about paying on time, etc.) Reach out to the networks themselves as well since they are all pretty eager to help you get started, and may even give you some ideas for traffic generation.

Awesome, thank you for the information.
I have been out for about 18 months now. What i used to know what the shady side of internet marketing, the BH niches, with gsa spam ranker etc
What concerns me is starting from nothing, I guess everybody does.
But is it a case of pic facebook, try a vertical, if it doesn't work then learn and move?

I think with so much to learn it is very consuming, and it's a case of just mindboggle at the moment.

For now I will read, read, read and read, then once I feel a bit more comfortable then jump in two footed.

The adult thing you mentioned may be a great start, will deffo have a look.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to AffiliateFix!

Okay, take a deep breath and relax. Overload is very common initially, as you can see in the Newbie Helpdesk section.

For now I will read, read, read and read, then once I feel a bit more comfortable then jump in two footed.

Yup, read, study, ask lots of questions and spring into action. Start with ONE vertical/niche; ONE tracker; ONE traffic source/method. Once you have either mastered those, or decided they aren't for you, only then move on to another. Focus will help keep the overwhelm at bay. ;)

I would also recommend that you brush up on industry terms and lingo: WIKI [START HERE]

Anyway, this is an introduction thread, so let's stay on topic here. Feel free to start a thread in the appropriate forum, anytime you need help or have a question.

Enjoy the forums and welcome to the light side of affiliate marketing. :D

Heh, well, you never truly start from nothing, as you always start with yourself at least... and in this case you've got a large community here on aff fix.

And yeah it's literally a case of pick something (facebook as you said for instance), try it out and see what a short time does you, and if it doesn't work, learn and move on, or learn and continue if you think what you learned will help you refine your current choice into something that works.

Good luck to you :D
