Hello everyone, so I registered a domain with namecheap, got a seperate host. Got this email just now.

How could have they e-mailed me? This is really weird.
I highlighted some text under the email which was even weirder, anyone ever have something like this occur to them? I'm pretty sure it's some sort of hack, but the mysterious text underneath and how they could have mailed me is interesting to me.

I am going to guess it is the hierarchy filters
once it gets a 'pass' it's released.
that is an allow, deny schema once allowed it's allowed --done
then there is an else if scenario were a object must pass ALL tests
just a supposition really ...
It's kinda clever, but why do they do this? Is it to steal domain?

Me owning over 2000 live domains today, I can tell you this is happening very often. They just go through newly regged domains and wait like 3 days as you say and then send out mails.
Not sure if anyone ever falls for this, but considering I been getting this kind of mails for over 3 years at least I guess it works to fool some people

Whois privacy needs to send the email forward or you would not get the complaints or any other mail that would need to actually reach you. so that part I see nothing strange about.

Filters not getting tripped I guess is because the spammers know how to work arround them

Best,
Amin

It's clever & affiliate can do it
If the service is good
Then only cold call part is illegal?
  1. You register domain (next step is build website)
  2. Spammer send you email "congratulations for your new domain with namecheap, we offer website design to thousand of new businesses just like you, click here for free starter website, if you like after 30 days just $9.99/month"
  3. Example 5% of customer signs up for free trial*
  4. Example 10% of free trial customer pays $9.99/month
  5. Spammer gets $1,500/day
*Namecheap is #2 in world with 15 million domains
How many domains are new today?
DNP says +150,000 domains registered yesterday
If 20% its namecheap = 30,000
When 5% does free trial its 1,500
If 10% pay $9.99/month = 150 x $9.99 = $1,500/day

Like Amin said, I mean, this has to work for someone, they must be earning at least some money to keep doing this. "Economies of scale" :D
